Frequently Asked Questions

If TOPS files are open / in use during the backup time, what's the effect on the backup?

Since TOPS uses a field locking technology, files can almost always be successfully backed up, even if someone is working in the community. However, there are a few exceptions where a user may have the files opened exclusively (if they are rebuilding the database or editing users and passwords, for example). If a file has an exclusive lock on it, the Internet Backup Service will not be able to compress and backup that one file. Even in this 'worst case scenario, all the rest of the files will still be fine.

During Setup after I selected "Maintain Backups", and I received the error message "TOPS Internet Backup Service was not able to access your account information".
  1. Go to Internet, Internet Control Center
  2. Enter your TOPS Client ID (you will find it on your TOPS 2000™ license agreement, or any invoice from TOPS Software)
  3. Click close. (You do not need to enter a zip code)
  4. Go to Internet, Internet Backup Service, Maintain Backups and continue following the directions to setup your account.
I scheduled my backups to happen at midnight, but they do not get performed until 8:00 am when office personel get in.

It is doing this because your computer is either turned off or logged out at the time you had it scheduled to backup. When you login to the computer in the morning, the scheduler realizes that it was not on when it was supposed to run and so it runs right then. The solution is to leave your computer on and logged in overnight so that the backup can run.
